Overview
About this Spot
Pico Pequeno is a surf spot located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, directly in front of the Hotel Tamarindo Diria. The spot features a sand and rocky bottom, with the best surf conditions found during medium and high tides. At low tide, the area becomes shallow and the presence of rocks increases the risk of injury. The spot provides both left and right waves. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters, but lefts can sometimes extend up to 200 meters when the swell is head high or bigger. The surf here is regular, and the spot is known for being ultra crowded, especially with many beginners, surf schools, and swimmers in the water. The atmosphere is busy, with a mix of young surfers and some older locals. Many surfers do not use leashes, so be aware of boards in the lineup. The spot is often the only surfable option in the area when onshore winds are present. Access is easy, with parking available in front of the spot, but do not leave valuables in your car. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always check the surf etiquette before paddling out. It is important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Pico Pequeno is close to other surf spots like Indicators Point, Ci Kembang, and Bulak Benda. For the latest surf forecast, surf report, map, and webcam updates, check local resources before heading out. Always be aware of changing tides and the rocky bottom to keep your surf session safe.
