Overview
About this Spot
Dominicalito is a surf spot located in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, about two kilometers south of Dominical. The beach is crescent-shaped with a sandy bottom and is surrounded by jungle-covered hills. The spot is accessible by car via Route 34, with a dirt road leading to the shore. Parking is available near the entrance, and a short walk brings you to the beach. The surf at Dominicalito is regular, with waves breaking over sand and working best at medium and high tide. The spot provides both left and right waves. Swell directions from the southwest, south, and northwest are common. Wave size ranges from about two feet up to head high. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters. At low tide, rocks and tide pools are exposed, and the paddle out can be more challenging. The southern end of the beach has a small island that can be reached at low tide. Local fishermen use the southern cove to launch boats. There are no public restrooms, showers, or lifeguards at the spot. A small vendor stand near the entrance offers snacks and drinks, but it is a good idea to bring your own supplies. Parking is free, but keep your belongings secure and avoid leaving valuables unattended, as petty theft can happen. For surf lessons or equipment rentals, check in Dominical, as services on the beach are limited. Dominicalito is suitable for all levels, but always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always follow surf etiquette. Nearby surf spots include Playa Dominical, Manuel Antonio, Playitas, North Playitas, and Boca Quepos.
