Overview
About this Spot
Playa de Nosara is a surf spot located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The beach has a sandy bottom and works on all tides, offering a consistent wave that attracts surfers year-round. The spot provides both left and right waves. The length of the ride usually ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The surf here is very consistent, and the spot is considered a regional classic. Playa de Nosara is suitable for all levels, but many beginners are in the water, especially since several surf camps have opened in recent years. The area can get crowded during the dry season and in June and July, so it’s important to respect the locals and check the surf etiquette when the spot is busy. The best time for surfing is usually from March to August, with optimal conditions when the swell comes from the south, southwest, or northwest, and the wind is from the east. The spot is about a 4-hour drive from San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, to the village of Nosara, and then a short drive or walk to the beach. There is free parking, but it’s recommended not to leave your car unattended and to use guarded parking when possible. The first 50 meters from the shoreline are undeveloped to protect the coastal ecosystem. There is not much current, but as with all beach breaks, it may take some time to reach the lineup. Surfers should always check their skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level, and stay alert for any hazards in the water. Nearby surf spots include Pelada, Olga’s, Ostional, and Marbella. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam updates, check local resources before heading out.
