About this Spot

Bogan River is a surf spot located in Auckland, New Zealand, near Muriwai Beach on the west coast. To get to the spot, drive to Muriwai Beach, find the 4WD access, and head about 100 meters to the right along the beach. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is needed to reach the spot. The bottom is sandy, and the spot works at all tides. The surf here is very consistent, with waves breaking over 150 days a year. Wave lengths usually range from 50 to 150 meters, and on good days, rides can reach up to 300 meters. The spot provides both left and right waves. Swell directions from the northwest, west, or southwest work best, and the ideal wind is from the east to northeast. Swell size can be less than 1 meter up to over 5 meters. The spot is best for intermediate surfers. There are rips and undertow, so always check the surf report and forecast before heading out. The crowd is usually light, but local surfers are protective of the spot, especially when the surf is good. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and be aware of local customs. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. When the spot is crowded, follow surf etiquette and wait your turn for waves.
