Overview
About this Spot
Carenerro Point Break is a surf spot located on the Caribbean coast of Panama. The spot sits on Isla Carenero, close to Bocas del Toro town, which is on the Caribbean coast near the Costa Rican border. To get to the break, you can take a short 3-5 minute water taxi ride from Bocas Town, with boat taxis available next to the Pirate Restaurant. The surf spot provides left waves. The bottom is made of coral reef, and the wave works on all tides. The length of the ride ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The wave is consistent and is considered a regional classic, with several take-off spots that help spread out surfers when it gets busier. The inside section of the wave is fast, while the outside offers longer walls and barrel sections. The far outside section is mainly for locals, so it’s best not to paddle past the main peak. The water is warm all year, with temperatures between 27.4°C and 29.0°C, so board shorts and a rash vest are usually enough. The spot is usually empty or has low crowds, but always respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and check the surf etiquette. The reef is shallow, so be careful if you’re not familiar with the area. The spot is best for intermediate surfers, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot matches your level. The best surf conditions happen with a northeast swell and offshore winds from the west-southwest. Carenerro Point Break is close to other surf spots like Skully’s, Punch Reef, Silver Back, Wizard Beach, and Dumpers.
