Overview
About this Spot
Punch Reef is a surf spot located on the Caribbean coast of Panama, on Isla Colón in the Bocas del Toro region. The spot is about a 10-minute drive from Bocas Town, and you can get there by taking a taxi and asking the driver to take you to Punch Beach, just before Dumpers and Bluff Beach. The bottom is made of sharp coral reef, so be careful when entering and exiting the water. The spot works at all tides and the wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The lip of the wave is soft and the barrels can be hollow, but the wave is generally easy and the reef is deep, making it possible for surfers of all levels to surf here. The spot is usually not crowded, with about 5 to 8 people in the water at busy times, but it is considered the most crowded spot in Bocas. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always check the surf etiquette. The area has seen more development in recent years, so you might find more people during peak surf seasons. The spot is close to other surf spots like Dumpers, Skully’s, Carenerro Point Break, Silver Back, and Wizard Beach. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The reef is very sharp, so watch your step when getting in and out of the water. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check local resources before heading out. Punch Reef is a regional classic and is known for its regular wave frequency. There are no specific parking details available, but access is straightforward from Bocas Town by taxi.
