Playa Coyote

Playa Coyote is a surf spot located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, on the Nicoya Peninsula north of Punta Coyote. The beach is divided by the Rio Jabillo mangrove river, with the southern part called Punta Coyote and the northern section known as Playa Costa de Oro. The spot features a sandy bottom and offers both beach breaks and reef breaks. The best surf conditions are during medium and high tide, with the optimal swell coming from the north and northwest. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The wave length ranges from 150 to 300 meters, and the frequency is regular. The area is remote and usually empty, so you will likely find no crowd in the water. Access is via a 5-kilometer inland drive from San Francisco de Coyote, and a 4×4 vehicle is recommended as you can park directly on the beach. The spot is suitable for intermediate surfers due to the fast waves and the presence of sharks in the area.
