Caballeros is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, in the Punta Hermosa district, about 40 kilometers south of Lima and near the 43 km mark of the South Panamericana highway. The spot is known for its consistent right-hand point break and is considered a regional classic. The bottom is a mix of sand and rocks, and the wave length is usually less than 50 meters. The surf at Caballeros is very consistent throughout the year, with the best conditions often found during the winter months. The ideal swell comes from the south-southwest, and the best wind direction is from the east-northeast. The spot is suitable for intermediate surfers, and the waves can get hollow and fast, with heights reaching up to 3 meters. The water temperature averages around 16°C, so wearing a wetsuit is recommended. The climate is moderate, moist, and cold, with temperatures between 12°C and 28°C. Access to Caballeros is via the South Panamericana highway; from Lima, take the exit to Punta Hermosa, then follow the road to the first gas station and turn right onto the paved road leading to the parking area. Parking is available at the cliff top near food stalls, and it is a good idea to get to know the people there as they can keep an eye on your car. Steps lead down to the beach from the cliff. The area is private and surrounded by houses, with no commercial establishments directly on the beach. Hazards at Caballeros include sea urchins, rocks, and strong rip currents, so always check the surf report, forecast, and map before heading out. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always follow surf etiquette. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level.
