Overview
About this Spot
Cerro Azul is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, about 130 km south of Lima city, near the village of Cerro Azul in the Cañete Province. The spot is easy to find, just off the Panamericana Sur highway. The surf break features a sand and rock bottom, with waves that break off a rocky point and along the beach north of the village. The main wave is hollow and starts on sand by the rocks, pulling over some submerged rocks, and the length of the ride can range from 50 to 150 meters. The spot works best at low and medium tide and offers regular surf conditions throughout the year, with the most consistent surf during the winter months from March to September. The spot is considered a regional classic and is suitable for all levels, but the take-off zone is small, so it can get crowded, especially in summer when the town attracts more visitors. When the surf is small, paddling out is easy, but it gets more challenging as the waves get bigger. Some surfers use the jetty to jump in and paddle across. Hazards include sea urchins and rocks, so be careful when entering and exiting the water. The local surfers are generally friendly if you show respect, but always check the surf etiquette, especially when the spot is crowded. The area around the pier also holds waves, and there are beach breaks stretching north from the village. Nearby surf spots include Punta Corrientes, Puerto Fiel, Palillos, Pepinos, and Sarapampa. The village has basic amenities like stores, restaurants, and hostels, and you can find more services in Cañete, about 30 minutes away. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check online resources before heading out.
