Overview
About this Spot
Punta Rocas is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, about 46 kilometers south of the city in the district of Punta Negra. You can reach it by following the old Panamerican Highway and looking for the big road sign marked “Punta Rocas.” There are two access routes: the upper track gives you a view from the cliff, while the lower track leads to beachfront parking. In summer, it’s a good idea to pay a local attendant for parking. The spot is known for its rocky bottom with boulders and is best surfed at low to medium tide. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Punta Rocas is one of the most consistent surf breaks in the region, working with both small and big swells, and only closing out on very large swells. The left is usually faster and shorter, but the quality of each direction depends on the swell. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters. There is a shore break right in front of the parking area, and a main break over the rocky reef. Watch out for submerged rocks, especially when the swell is small, and be aware of rips and undertow. Paddle in from either side of the point, with the south side being the most used, but keep an eye out for fishing lines that can be hard to see. The spot has hosted international surf competitions, including the Pan American Surf Games and the Pan American Games. The crowd is usually light, but it can get busy on weekends or during good conditions. Always respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and check the surf etiquette. Before paddling out, check your skills to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check online resources.
