Overview
About this Spot
La Isla is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, in the district of Punta Hermosa, about 40 kilometers south of Lima city and close to the Panamericana Sur highway. The spot is right in front of the Punta Hermosa resort area. You can park your car near the beach, usually up front in Punta Hermosa. There are two main access points: you can paddle out from the middle of the bay using a direct channel to the wave, or walk to the small headland and enter from the narrowest part of the causeway, paddling through the softer left. The bottom is a mix of rocks and sand, and there are sea urchins, so be careful when entering and exiting the water. The spot provides both left and right waves. The right is the main wave, breaking over a rock platform in the middle of the bay, while a softer left peels most days. On bigger swells, the left reforms closer to the beach and is often used by bodyboarders. The wave length is usually less than 50 meters. Swell comes mainly from the south and southwest, and the best wind is from the east-southeast. The spot works on all tides, with little tidal movement, so the quality depends more on swell size. La Isla is known for being consistent and is considered a regional classic. The take-off can be tricky, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The spot is popular, especially in winter when the surf is most consistent, and can get crowded, so respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette when the spot is busy. Nearby surf spots include Puntilla, El Paso, Kon Tiki, Playa Norte, and Punta Rocas. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check local surf resources before heading out.
