Overview
About this Spot
Playa La Tiza is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, in the Pucusana area. The beach is about 0.7 kilometers long and features a mix of sand and rocks, with cliffs and dunes nearby. Access to Playa La Tiza is restricted, as it is a military beach, so you can only get there by boat. The spot is mainly for bodyboarders because the depth is low and fins can touch the sand when riding a wave. Surfboards are not recommended since the wave can break boards due to the shallow bottom. The best waves are found in front of the rocks at the left end of the beach, where a floating square raft marks the spot. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The wave is short, with a length of less than 50 meters, and is known for its speed and the possibility of getting tubes and doing maneuvers. The spot works best at high tide and has a regular frequency. Playa La Tiza is usually empty, but the beach can get crowded with people on weekends, though very few surf the wave. Localism can be an issue, so respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always check the surf etiquette. Pollution and rocks are hazards to be aware of. The spot is close to other surf spots like Santa Maria, Izquierditas, San Bartolo, Penascal, and Pena Rosa. There are no webcams or surf reports directly from the spot, so check the surf forecast and map before heading out. Remember to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Smoking and bringing dogs are not allowed on the beach. The best time to visit is during the summer months from December to March.
