Overview
About this Spot
Santa Rosa is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, in the Punta Negra District, known for its consistent surf and regional classic quality. The spot is found just before San Bartolo, with the turn-off to Santa Rosa being poorly signed. After the dry river bed, you will find other surf spots like El Huayco and Pena Rosa. The bottom is made up of boulders, and the wave can throw a heavy lip, so care is needed, especially since the water is shallow over rocks. The spot works best with west to northwest swells, while southerly swells tend to pass by. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The wave length is usually less than 50 meters and is considered fun and challenging, with intermediate experience recommended. Santa Rosa is not one of the most dangerous waves in the area, but it is important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The spot is often empty, but when it gets crowded, respect the locals and always follow surf etiquette. The best surf conditions are during the winter months, with offshore winds from the east and distant groundswells, especially from the south-southwest. The ideal tide is medium. The water temperature ranges from 21 to 26°C in February and drops to 15 to 20°C in August, so wetsuit choice depends on the season. Parking is available, but the area right by the point usually requires a 4×4; otherwise, park as far south as possible and walk 2-3 minutes to the break. Santa Rosa is officially protected under the National Registry of Protected Surf Breaks. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check local resources before heading out. Nearby surf spots include El Huayco, Pena Rosa, Penascal, San Bartolo, and Izquierditas.
