Overview
About this Spot
Canal das Barcas is a surf spot located in Alentejo, Portugal. Known for its right-hand waves, this spot offers a unique surfing experience with a rocky boulders bottom and it is suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. Beginners are advised to avoid this spot due to its challenging conditions and long paddle. The wave length can be over 150 meters. You enter and exit the water by the outer pier of the harbor. Be careful, as it can be a bit tricky. The spot is less crowded during winter weekdays. However, sunny weekends can attract more surfers, so it’s important to respect the locals and adhere to surf etiquette. The best boards for this spot include shortboards, mid-lengths, retros, and longboards. Canal das Barcas works on all tides and needs a decent swell. Nearby surf spots include Vila Nova de Milfontes, Praia do Farol, Malhão, Aivados, and Praia de Almograve. For those interested in exploring further, there’s a right pointbreak called Marrocos in front of the parking area, though it’s rare. South of Canal das Barcas, about 500 meters away, lies Montanhas, a spot ideal for tow-in surfing with no size limit. Check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and the conditions match your surfing level. Respect the local crew.
