Overview
About this Spot
Praia do Bordeira is a surf spot located in Algarve, Portugal, on the north side of the Carrapateira headland. The beach is one of the largest in the Costa Vicentina area, stretching for over 3 kilometers, and features a mix of sand and rocks on the bottom. The spot is exposed to swells from the west, northwest, and north, with the best wind coming from the east, southeast, and south. The minimum swell height for surfable waves is about 2 feet. Praia do Bordeira is known for its very consistent surf, with waves breaking at all tides and a moderate crowd, especially during peak times. The spot provides both left and right waves. The main beach break has multiple peaks, with more forgiving waves suitable for beginners and intermediates, while the left-hand point break near the cliffs is better for experienced surfers. Boards of all types can be used here, including beginner and softboards, shortboards, mid and retro boards, and longboards. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters. The water is relatively cold, so wearing a wetsuit is recommended. There are no toilet facilities on-site, but during summer months, a beach bar and lifeguards are present, and a restaurant is open year-round at the edge of the beach. Free parking is available at the top and bottom of the cliffs. The nearby village of Carrapateira offers more amenities like accommodation and food. Other surf spots close by include Carrapateira, Praia do Amado, Figueiros, Vale Figueira, and Canal. When the spot is crowded, respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level.
