Cemetery is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, in the Cape Peninsula area just east of Muizenberg. The spot is a beach break with a sandy bottom and is known for its exposed conditions. The best surf at Cemetery happens when a south-southeast swell lines up with offshore winds from the west. The spot provides both left and right waves. Surfing conditions are inconsistent, with surfable waves present about 10% of the time in April, while 29% of the time the spot is blown out, and for the remaining 61% it is usually too small for most surfers. The length of the ride ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The spot is generally empty, but it can get crowded at times, so respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette when the spot is busy. The water temperature varies seasonally, reaching 19 to 21°C (66 to 70°F) in late January and dropping to 14 to 16°C (57 to 61°F) in mid-July, so choose your wetsuit accordingly. Cemetery is suitable for all levels, but always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. There are rips and undertow, and sharks have been reported in the area, so stay alert and if you see any dark shapes in the water, get out immediately. Access is straightforward, with a long stretch of parking lot close to the break, but be cautious as car break-ins have been reported; park near the toilets in the middle of the lot for better visibility.
