Baileys Cottage

Baileys Cottage is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, near Muizenburg Corner. The spot is known for its rocky bottom and three main reefs, called 1st, 2nd, and 3rd reef, which break in order from left to right. 2nd reef is the most consistent and breaks over a boulder, offering an easy takeoff followed by a hollow barrel section. 1st reef breaks over a shallow reef and can produce short, hollow right-hand barrels when the conditions are right. 3rd reef is a short left-hander. The spot only works about 20 times a year and needs a swell of at least 3ft and northwest winds to break properly. The best conditions are usually found around medium tide. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The area is exposed to hazards like rocks and sea urchins, and there is a known presence of sharks, so always be aware of your surroundings. The water temperature is around 14.6°C, so a spring wetsuit is recommended. During summer, the surf is often flat, with winter, especially June, offering the most consistent waves. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters. The spot is not usually crowded, but when the surf is up, more surfers may be present.
