About this Spot

Misty Cliffs is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, along the Atlantic Peninsula coastline. The beach is about 350 to 400 meters long and sits at the foot of the Misty Cliffs village, between two cliff faces. You can find it on the M65 road, between Witsand Beach and Scarborough Beach, with easy access via Chapman’s Drive past Noordhoek. The area is part of Table Mountain National Park and is recognized as a conservation village, with only a few homes and mostly holiday residences. Facilities are limited, so bring your own supplies, as the nearest shops are in Scarborough, about 2 kilometers away. The beach is known for its heavy mist, especially in winter, which gives the spot its name. The surf spot features a sandbar with a mix of sand and rocks on the bottom. The spot provides both left and right waves. The waves are hollow, fast, and powerful, with a length of less than 50 meters. The surf is very consistent, breaking over 150 days a year, and works best with a southwest to west swell and north wind, especially during mid and high tides. Swell size can range from under 3 feet to over 8 feet. The spot is generally empty during the week but can attract a few surfers on weekends. Hazards include rocks in the surf zone and strong currents, so swimming is not recommended. The spot is suitable for all levels, but always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always follow surf etiquette. Nearby surf spots include Witsands, Scarborough Beach, Crayfish Factory, Scarborough Point, and I & J’s. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check local surf resources before heading out.
