About this Spot

Scarborough Beach is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, near the small village of Scarborough and close to Cape Point Nature Reserve. The spot features a mix of sand and rocks on the bottom. There are three main breaks: a small righthander along a rip channel in the left corner, a peak in the middle of the beach, and a righthander off the rocks in front of the car park. The beach break is more consistent, while the car park section works best with a clean west swell and light offshore winds. The waves here can be super hollow at times, especially in summer, and the spot is known for reforming righthanders that swing back into the beach, breaking on a sandbar next to a deeper channel. The surf spot provides right waves. Wave size is usually around 2-4 feet, but can get bigger, especially in winter. The water is cold, so a wetsuit is recommended. Scarborough Beach is less crowded than other Cape Town surf spots, but it is important to respect the locals and follow surf etiquette, especially when the spot is busy. The spot is suitable for all levels, but check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Strong rip currents are common, so always be cautious. Access is via a sandy track from the main road or through the car park near Soetwater Resort. Facilities are limited, but the village has a restaurant for a quick meal after your session. The area is surrounded by high peaks and sand dunes, with a seasonal wetland nearby. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check online resources before heading out. Nearby surf spots include Scarborough Point, Misty Cliffs, Witsands, Crayfish Factory, and I & J’s. Sharks are present in the area, so always stay alert.
