Overview
About this Spot
Noordhoek Beach is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, stretching for about 6 kilometers between Chapman’s Peak and Kommetjie. The spot is known for its sandy and rocky bottom, with waves breaking over a series of sand banks that change with the swell and sand movement. The main peaks are “The Hoek” at the northern end, which is a right-hand break, and “Dunes” in the central area, also a right-hand break. The beach is exposed to southeast winds, which are offshore and help shape the waves. Swell from 3 foot and up works well here, and the spot is very consistent, offering waves of various lengths, usually between 50 and 150 meters. Barrels are common, and there are many different peaks along the beach, so you can walk up and down to find a spot. The best conditions are at low and medium tide. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The area is known for strong rips and undertow, so always check the surf report and forecast before heading out. Sharks are present in the area, so stay alert. Localism can be an issue, especially when the spot is crowded, so respect the locals and always follow surf etiquette. The crowd is usually light, but it can get busy on good days. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. Access to the beach is via a sandy path from the parking area at the end of Beach Road in Noordhoek. The beach is backed by protected wetlands and is free from urban development. Swimming is not recommended due to strong currents and cold water. For more details, check the surf map, webcam, and forecast before your session. Nearby surf spots include Dunes, The Hoek, Kakapo, Chapman’s Peak, and Krans.
