About this Spot

Long Beach is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, in the coastal village of Kommetjie. The spot is known for its consistent surf, with a permanent sandbar in the middle of the break and peaks that provide both left and right waves. The left is reliable and breaks into a channel, while the right can close out or fade but sometimes offers long rides ending over a rocky area. The bottom is sandy, and the best conditions are at low and medium tide, as high tide makes the waves too deep to break on the sandbar. The spot works well with a south-westerly wind and is easy to predict when checking the surf forecast or report. The waves are generally easy to ride but can be fast and powerful, especially on bigger days, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The shore break can get heavy on big swells, so it’s smart to kick out before reaching the inside. Long Beach is suitable for all levels, but the crowd can get hectic, especially on weekends. Always respect the locals and check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded. The beach stretches for about 8 kilometers and is also popular for walking and dog walking. Access is straightforward, with parking available at Surf Way at the end of Beach Road in Noordhoek. Facilities include toilets, and dogs are allowed on leads. Nearby surf spots include Krans, Pebbles Shorey, Boneyards, Inner Kom, and Outer Kom. The area around Kommetjie has shops and places to eat, and the SS Kakapo shipwreck is a local landmark along the beach. For up-to-date conditions, check the surf map, webcam, and forecast before heading out.
