The bottom is rocky, and the wave is a right-hand reef break. The surf spot provides right waves. Gunties Reef works best with a light southeast wind and swells coming from the south sectors. The minimum swell height for the spot is 1 foot, but it gets good on swells around 4 to 5 feet. The best conditions are usually found at mid to high tide. The wave length is less than 50 meters, and the spot is known for having only a few surfers in the water, but it is still important to respect the locals and check the surf etiquette, especially when the spot is crowded.
