About this Spot

Solly’s is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, near the Sea Point Pavilion. The spot is easy to find and has a parking lot close by, making access straightforward. The surf break is a short reef break with a coral reef bottom, and the area has lots of kelp and rocks. The spot provides both left and right waves. Solly’s works best with a clean 4-5 foot swell and light to moderate southeasterly winds. The outer reef can work when the swell is bigger, depending on the direction. The surf spot is consistent and can be surfed at all tides. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters. Paddling out is easy, and the spot is suitable for all levels, but it is important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The water temperature ranges from 14°C in July to 22°C in February, so a 2mm long sleeve shorty or 3/2mm spring wetsuit is good for warmer months, and a 4/3mm wetsuit or 3/2mm suit with 3mm boots is recommended for colder months. The area around Solly’s is busy, with coffee shops, restaurants, and a public swimming pool nearby. The spot can get crowded when the surf forecast is good, so respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette when the spot is busy. Urchins are present, so be careful when entering and exiting the water. Nearby surf spots include Queens, Rocklands, Gasworks, Clifton 1st Beach, and Clifton 2nd Beach. For the latest surf report, map, and webcam, check local surf resources before heading out.
