About this Spot

Pringle Bay is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, between Gordon’s Bay and Betty’s Bay. The spot sits at the main beach of Pringle Bay, a coastal village in the Western Cape. The surf break features a sandy bottom and is known for producing powerful and hollow waves, with the main peaks being a left at the reef during low tide and another area on the far right offering both left and right waves. The spot provides both left and right waves. Surfing here is best during mid tide, especially when the swell comes from the south or southwest and the wind blows from the southeast. The length of the ride ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The water temperature averages around 16°C (60°F) year-round, with colder months dropping to about 13.8°C (56.9°F) and warmer months reaching up to 17.8°C (64.1°F). Most surfers use a 2/3mm wetsuit, with thicker suits recommended in winter. The spot is generally empty, but always respect the locals and check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded. There are three parking entrances with direct access to the beach. Hazards include strong rip currents, undertow, a heavy sandbar, and occasional shark presence, so caution is advised. The surf at Pringle Bay can be unpredictable, sometimes flat even when conditions seem promising, but when the forecast is right, the spot can deliver solid waves. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level, as the waves can be heavy and are best suited for intermediate and experienced surfers. For more details, check the latest surf report, map, and webcam for current conditions. Nearby surf spots include Pringle Bay Reef, Moonlight Bay, Rooi Els, Jerilotto, and Silver Sands.
