Overview
About this Spot
Muizenberg Corner is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa. The spot is known for its sandy bottom and gentle, rolling waves, making it a popular place for beginners and longboarders. The main break is best for those starting out, while on good days, shortboarders can also find decent waves. The spot provides both left and right waves. The surf is very consistent, with a minimum swell height of about 2 feet needed to get going. The best swell direction is from the southeast or south, and the best wind comes from the northwest or north. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters, but on some days, you can get longer rides. The tide works best at medium but is rideable at all tides. The water temperature ranges from 14°C to 22°C, so wearing a wetsuit is recommended all year. There are rips and undertow, so always check the conditions before paddling out. Sharks are present in the area, and a shark-spotting system is in place for safety. The beach is usually crowded on weekends and public holidays, but the long stretch of the break means you can often find your own spot. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always follow surf etiquette. There are several surf schools and a board and wetsuit rental shop right across from the beach. The train line stops at Muizenberg, and there is parking along Beach Road, making access easy. Nearby surf spots include Baileys Cottage, Electrics, Danger Reef, Pitzmah, and Kalk Bay Backdoor. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level.
