Las Cruces is a surf spot located in Central, Chile, in the Valparaíso Region, about 8 kilometers north of Cartagena and 7 kilometers south of El Tabo. The spot sits in a small coastal town known for its sandy beaches and relaxed vibe. The main beach for surfing is Playa Chica, which is 155 meters wide and 80 meters long, with coarse yellow sand and a nearby fishing cove. Playa Grande is another beach in the area, popular for walks and views of old mansions and the remains of a railway line. The surf spot at Las Cruces has a sandy bottom and is suitable for all levels, but it is important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The waves are very consistent, with a length of less than 50 meters, and the spot is usually empty or lightly crowded, especially on weekdays. The surf spot provides left waves. The best conditions are with a southwest swell and wave sizes around 2 feet. The waves break over an uneven reef, so caution is needed. Most surfers here use shortboards or bodyboards. To access the spot, you can park your car up on the hill near the restaurant and the red house, then walk down the stairs to the beach to avoid parking fees. Paddle out near the rocks on the right side of the beach, then head toward the middle of the surf zone. The local community is friendly, but always respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded. Check the surf etiquette when the spot is busy.
