Overview
About this Spot
La Castilla is a surf spot located in Central Chile, in the town of El Tabo, Valparaíso Region. The spot is found in northern El Tabo, about one block south of the bridge over the Córdova River, along the main street. The bottom is a mix of sand and rocks, so you should watch out for rocks and sea urchins in the water. The spot provides left waves. The wave is generally fast and can be powerful, but it is often mushy. The length of the ride is usually between 50 and 150 meters. La Castilla works on all tides and is very consistent, with the best swell coming from the southwest and west, and the best wind from the north, northeast, or east. The minimum swell height for good conditions is around 4 feet. The spot is not recommended for beginners due to the presence of rips, undertow, rocks, and the nature of the wave. It is better suited for intermediate and experienced surfers. Boards like shortboards, mid-lengths, and retro boards are commonly used here. The crowd is usually light, but it is important to respect the locals, especially when the spot gets busy, and always follow surf etiquette. Nearby surf spots include Isla Negra, Chepica, La Cruz, Ahogados, and Las Cruces. Before paddling out, check your skills to make sure the spot and the conditions match your surfing level. The area around La Castilla also has camping facilities and local restaurants where you can try typical Chilean food.
