About this Spot
Asunchillo is a surf spot located in Northwest, Nicaragua, in the León Province, about 1.5 hours from Managua. The spot features a sandy bottom and is known for its consistent beach break, with waves that are generally mellow and suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The best surf conditions are usually found during low tide and rising tide, especially in the mornings when the wind is lighter. Asunchillo picks up a variety of swells, and the best surf is often with a south swell and offshore winds from the east-northeast. The beach is spacious, with multiple peaks up and down the shoreline, so you can spread out and find your own spot. Access is typically through the Gran Pacifica Resort area. After passing the gate, follow the sign marked ‘Beach’ on the right, drive to the end, and park near the Palapas. A 4×4 vehicle is recommended for the drive. From the parking area, it’s a short walk up the path to the beach. The spot can get busier on weekends with both local surfers and visitors from the resort, but there is usually enough room to avoid heavy crowds. When the surf spot is crowded, respect the locals and always follow surf etiquette. The waves are generally friendly, but there can be occasional hollow sections, especially near the river mouth, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Nearby surf spots include Hemorrhoids, Cherrio’s, Chigga’s, Quizala, and Pochomil Beach Break.
