Overview
About this Spot
Cemeteries is a surf spot located in Visayas, Philippines, on Siargao Island near the town of General Luna. The spot sits about 800 meters from the beach, across a lagoon, and is accessed either by paddling out for 15 to 20 minutes or by taking a surf skiff for a small fee. The break is found by lining up the cell towers perpendicular to the rock island to the north, and a second line-up can be used at lower tides along the edge of the exposed reef. The bottom is coral reef, and the spot is known for its long, spilling left with a second section that sometimes throws a barrel. The spot provides both left and right waves. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters, and the quality is considered a regional classic. The best time to surf here is from August to November, when swells are more consistent. Tidal movements have a big impact on the wave quality, so always check the surf forecast and report before heading out. The area is usually empty, but when it gets crowded, respect the locals and follow surf etiquette. Access is across from Driftwood Surf Shop, and you can reach the spot by boat or by paddling. The spot is not channelled, so be prepared for a direct paddle over the lagoon. There are rocks and sea urchins on the reef, so take care when entering and exiting the water. The spot is suitable for all levels, but always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Nearby surf spots include Rock Island, Cloud Nine, Jacking Horse, Daku Island, and Stimpy’s. For more details, check the surf map and webcam for current conditions.
