Overview
About this Spot
G1 is a surf spot located in Visayas, Philippines, on Siargao Island. The spot is also known as Guiuan. The bottom is made up of sharp coral reef, and the wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The spot is best surfed at high tide, especially on a rising tide, as the reef can get very shallow at lower tides, making it hard to duck dive and increasing the risk of hitting the reef. Booties are recommended, and gloves can be useful since you may need to grab the reef or ditch your board. The spot provides both left and right waves. G1 is mainly accessed by boat from local resorts, with a boat ride of about 15 minutes south from “Patricks by the Beach” to Paradise, but you can also reach it by land by asking a local hubble driver at Cloud 9. The paddle to the break can take more than 20 minutes if you choose not to take a boat. Board rental is available on Siargao Island, which is a good option if you do not want to travel with your own board. The spot is suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers, and it is important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot matches your level. The spot can get crowded, so respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette when the spot is busy. The best forecast for G1 is when the swell comes from the southeast, with a minimum swell height of 2 feet, and the best wind direction is from the northwest, north, or northeast. The spot is close to other well-known breaks like Daku Island, Cemeteries, Rock Island, Jacking Horse, and Cloud Nine. Always check the conditions and your own ability before heading out to surf at G1.
