The spot is best when there is a 4-6ft ground swell, low tide, and no wind or a slight offshore breeze in the early morning. There are no channels, so expect a hard paddle out. The spot is generally empty, but if there is a crowd on the main peak in front of the parking lot, you can walk down the long beach to find another peak. Garvies is a good alternative when nearby spots like Cave Rock and Ansteys are crowded. The beach is accessible by driving to Marine Drive, turning into Sloane Street, and heading to the bottom where you can park and walk onto the sand. Parking is limited, and there are no lifeguards or public amenities, so take care and be prepared. The area is also known for rock pools at low tide. The surf spot provides both left and right waves.
