Overview
About this Spot
Silos is a surf spot located on the central coast of California, near Guadalupe and close to the Vandenberg Air Force Base. The spot is named after a missile silo on the base. The surf break is a reef type with a rocky bottom, producing long, walled-up lefts. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters. Silos is known for being consistent and picking up most swells, handling the typical central California conditions. The spot is best surfed with east, northeast, or southeast winds and swells from the north, northwest, southwest, or west. The area is private and access is restricted due to its location on the edge of a protected US Air Force Base. Entry is possible by boat or by hiking south from the legal Point Sal access, but access may be limited or controlled by military activity. Surfers should be aware of hazards such as rocks, sea urchins, and sharks. The spot is not recommended for beginners and is better suited for intermediate and experienced surfers. Boards commonly used here include shortboards, mid-lengths, and retro boards. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and the conditions match your level. The nearest surf spots are Main Street, Purisima Point Peak, Surf Beach, Hippo Rock, and Oceano. Always be aware of the local rules and any military restrictions that may affect access to the spot.
