Ehukai is a surf spot located in Oahu North Shore, Hawaii. The spot provides both left and right waves. It’s known for its powerful swells, especially during winter months. The beach features a sand and rock bottom, suitable for all tide conditions. Ehukai is considered a regional classic, attracting surfers of all experience levels. The wave length typically ranges from 50 to 150 meters. This spot is also known as Banzai Pipeline or simply Pipeline, famous for its huge waves breaking in shallow water over a sharp reef. The name ‘Pipeline’ was coined in 1961 during the filming of a surf movie. Ehukai has three reef breaks at different depths, activating based on swell size. The main break forms large, hollow waves ideal for tube riding. Ehukai can get crowded, so it’s crucial to respect locals and follow surf etiquette. Be aware of potential hazards like rips, undertow, and rocks. Check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. Nearby spots include Backdoor, Off The Wall, Rock Piles, and Kammieland. During summer, conditions are calmer, suitable for swimming and snorkeling. The beach offers amenities like restrooms, showers, and lifeguards. Parking is limited, so arrive early. Ehukai has seen many notable surfers and has unfortunately been the site of several surfing-related fatalities due to its challenging conditions.
