Overview
About this Spot
Bobo’s Haena is a surf spot located in Kauai, Hawaii. The surf spot provides left waves. It’s situated on the north shore of Kaua’i, near Ke’e Beach at the end of Haena Road. Surfers can access the spot by walking from Ke’e Beach or parking near Cannon’s surf site and moving north. The spot is named after Stanford Morinaka, also known as ‘Bobo Satomo,’ a Kaua’i native and surfer from the mid-1960s to early 1980s. The wave breaks over a coral reef bottom, creating a hollow and fast tube ride. Bobo’s Haena works best with a west swell direction and can hold waves up to 4 meters (12 feet). The optimal tide positions are mid and high tide, with rising tide being most favorable. The spot is known for its clear water and scenic surroundings, offering views of the Na Pali Coast and nearby mountains. Bobo’s Haena is best suited for experienced surfers due to its challenging conditions. The area is generally uncrowded, but it’s important to respect locals and follow surf etiquette when others are present. Surfers should be aware of potential hazards, including sharp rocks, coral, and strong currents. The water can be shallow, sometimes only six to eight inches deep where the wave breaks on the reef. Check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The land area fronting Bobo’s surf spot was once home to Taylor Camp, a nudist colony in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Nearby surf spots include Cannons, Tunnels, Waikokos, Hanalei Bay, and Pu’u Poa. For the latest surf forecast, report, and webcam information, check local surf resources.
