Overview
About this Spot
Gillin’s is a surf spot located in Kauai, Hawaii. The spot is situated on the south shore of Kauai, near Poipu, in the Mahaulepu region. Gillin’s features an exposed reef break that works best during summer months when south swells are present. The surf spot provides right and left waves. Gillin’s is suitable for all experience levels and can be surfed at all tides. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The ocean floor consists of rocks and coral, so surfers should be cautious of shallow areas, especially on the inside section. To access Gillin’s, follow the road east out of Poipu until it turns to dirt. Continue until you reach a T-intersection with another dirt road, then turn right. After passing a security gate, stay right at the fork and follow the road to the parking lot. A trail leads straight to the beach, with the break directly in front. Be aware that the security gate is locked from 6 PM to 7 AM. For entry and exit, it’s recommended to use the area in front of the beach house just west of the break to avoid rocks. Gillin’s is known for being less crowded compared to other south shore summer breaks. The spot can handle swells up to 8 feet, but it’s unclear how much bigger it can hold. Nearby spots include Shipwrecks, Poipu, PK’s, Acid Drop, and Kalapaki Beach. When surfing Gillin’s, always respect the locals and follow surf etiquette. Check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. The area offers limited facilities, with no lifeguards or restrooms available. For those seeking a quieter surf experience, Gillin’s might be an ideal choice. Remember to check the surf forecast and report before your visit. While there may not be a surf webcam available, a map can help you locate this spot more easily.
