Punta de Lobos is a surf spot located in Central, Chile, about 6 kilometers south of Pichilemu in the O’Higgins Region. The area features fine gray sand, cliffs up to 50 meters high, and rocky formations where sea lions are often seen. The surf spot provides left waves. The bottom is a mix of sand and rocks, and the water is cold year-round. Punta de Lobos is known for its consistent surf, with wave heights usually between 2 and 3 meters, but in winter, waves can reach up to 10 meters. The spot is divided into three main sections, with the inside section being the most hollow and fickle. There are strong rips, heavy currents, and undertow, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The entry to the break requires good timing to avoid the rocks. The spot is considered world-class and is best suited for intermediate and experienced surfers. The length of the ride ranges from 150 to 300 meters. The area is exposed to north winds, which can affect the surf conditions. The spot is reliable and often has few surfers, but it is important to respect the locals and check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded. Punta de Lobos is a World Surfing Reserve and is home to a variety of marine life, including sea lions, marine birds, and sometimes whales and orcas. The endangered cactus Echinopsis bolligeriana grows in the region. The spot is about a three-hour drive from Santiago, and parking is available near the point.
