Overview
About this Spot
Big Rock is a surf spot located in South West Australia, Australia. Known for its challenging conditions, Big Rock features a coral reef bottom and a right-hand wave direction. The wave quality is considered normal, and it is best suited for intermediate surfers due to its regular frequency and wave length of less than 50 meters. The spot is relatively uncrowded, providing a quieter alternative to the bustling surf spots near Perth when conditions are right. However, surfers should be cautious of the urchins, rips, undertow, and rocks that characterize the area. Additionally, the presence of sharks is a known hazard. Localism is strong at Big Rock, so it’s important to respect the locals who have been surfing there for a long time. Access to the spot involves a walk of approximately 400 meters north along the coast from Ocean Reef Marina or a 200-meter walk on a built path from the bottom of Resolute Way. Nearby surf spots include Nathans Slab, Mossies, Mullaz, Burns Beach Reefy, and Whitfords Beach Outer Reefs. Surfers are advised to check their skills before paddling out to ensure that the spot and conditions match their surfing level. It’s also important to follow surf etiquette, especially in crowded spots. Respect the locals.
