About this Spot

4th Groyne is a surf spot located in South West Australia, Australia. This spot is known for its short, hollow left-hand waves that resemble the famous Kirra style. The wave direction is predominantly left, making it a favorite for surfers who enjoy challenging barrels. The sea bottom consists of sand and rocks, which can extend the wave length, providing an exciting ride for those who dare to surf over them. The surf spot is best experienced during low to medium tides, and it requires easterly winds and a substantial swell to break properly. Even on a large swell, the waves rarely exceed head height, making it accessible for surfers of all levels, from beginners to advanced riders. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters, offering a decent ride for those who catch it just right. The spot is not overly crowded, with only a few surfers typically present, allowing for a more relaxed surfing experience. Nearby surf spots include Dotties, Roberts Point, Sidewinders, Caves, and Hunchies Bay, providing additional options for surfers in the area. To reach 4th Groyne, head to the right of the town center, go to Mandurah Main Road on the beach side of Bunnings, and look for the four groynes. Park your car at the designated car park, go around the groyne, and jump in on the left side to reduce your paddle out. Bodyboarders will find this spot ideal for barrel rolls and 360s, while surfers can enjoy getting into some of the sickest barrels. It’s important to check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots and always assess your skills before paddling out to ensure the conditions match your surfing level. Respect the locals.
