Overview
About this Spot
The Wall at Hillary’s is a surf spot located in Perth Area, Australia, situated near Hillarys Boat Harbour in the northern coastal suburb of Hillarys, approximately 21 kilometers north-northwest of Perth’s central business district. The spot is characterized by a small wedge formation created when southwest swells interact with a breakwall on the northern side, causing the swell to bounce back and form the distinctive wedge shape. The Wall works best during large swells, typically producing waves between 3 to 4 feet, though it can occasionally reach up to 5 feet on bigger swells. The waves break predominantly to the right, though left-breaking waves are also possible, with surfers able to ride the wedge formation for a short but quick ride. The surf spot has a sandy bottom and is known for its very shallow waters, making it accessible from shore with an easy paddle out. Access to The Wall involves approximately a 5-minute walk from Hillarys Boat Harbour, and the spot is located next to a large pile of rocks south of the harbour. The area is suitable for surfers of all experience levels, though beginners should be cautious of the rocky areas and shallow conditions. For optimal surfing conditions, the spot works best with southwest, west, and northwest swells with a minimum height of 4 feet, and performs well with north, northeast, and east winds. When conditions are poor, surfers can drive an additional 15 minutes south to Trigg Beach for alternative surf options. Nearby surf spots include Sorrento Hungries, 3rd Groyne, 2nds, Watermans, and Seal Island. Check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level, and always respect the locals and check surf etiquette when the spot is crowded.
