Overview
About this Spot
Baja Malibu is a surf spot located in Baja North, Mexico. This spot provides both left and right waves. The bottom is sandy, and it can be surfed at all tides. The quality of the waves is considered normal, making it suitable for surfers of all levels. The spot is known for its very consistent wave frequency, with wave lengths typically less than 50 meters. Baja Malibu is often uncrowded, providing a more relaxed surfing experience compared to other spots. However, it is important to note that the area is known for pollution, with water often appearing brown and murky. The water temperature is colder than other parts of the coast. When a good swell comes in, Baja Malibu can produce spitting barrels with consistent double overhead sets. Parking is available next to Tecate Jack’s Bar, as the cobblestone street to the beach is private and gated. The spot is accessible off the toll road after the first toll booth before Cantamar and Rosarito, with Baja Malibu being the actual exit. Nearby surf spots include Playas de Tijuana, Mushrooms, Calafia, Terasa’s Trailer Park, and K38. There is a KOA campground at the San Antonio exit, offering amenities such as hot water showers, clean restrooms, and electricity outlets. Baja Malibu serves as an indicator for conditions further south along the toll road. If the surf is not favorable, you can enjoy a meal and a drink at Tecate Jack’s. Remember to check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded and always assess your skills before paddling out to ensure the conditions match your surfing level. Respect the locals.
