Overview
About this Spot
La Fonda is a surf spot located in Baja North, Mexico. This spot provides both left and right waves. The bottom consists of sand and rocks, and it is surfable at all tides. The wave quality is considered normal, making it suitable for surfers of all levels. The waves at La Fonda are fairly reliable and consistent, breaking from 1 to 6 feet or more. It is a nice change from the dirtier beach breaks to the north, such as Rosarito, as you can usually expect decent water quality here. The spot has a nice stretch of beach where you can often find an uncrowded peak. The wave needs at least a 5-foot swell to be fun, and there is a long paddle in large surf. The crowd is generally chill, with few surfers around. Parking is available in the camping area right off Mex 1, costing $10 for the day and $16 to camp. The campsite is cleaner and less intimidating than San Miguel, and there are cold open-air showers available. Alternatively, you can check out the hostel about 100 yards south of the arches leading to the campground, which offers hot showers, an ocean view, and a billiards table for when it’s flat. There is also a liquor store in the hotel to buy ice and wood for fires. To reach the surf spot, get off Mex 1 at K-58 Los Alisitos Hotel, park at the campground, and take the path down the cliff to get to the beach. Nearby spots include Alisitos, Raul, Las Gaviotas, Las Salinas, and K38. Remember to check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded and check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Respect the locals.
