About this Spot

Pasamayo is a surf spot located in Central Peru, Peru, about 35 kilometers north of Lima and close to the town of Ancón. The spot sits at the base of large sand dunes with the Pan American Highway running above. The area is remote, with no facilities, so bring your own food and water and take everything back with you. The surf breaks over a mix of coral reef and sand, with wave lengths ranging from 50 to 150 meters. The spot provides both left and right waves. Swell direction affects which shoulder works best, and the waves are often bigger than those in Lima, sometimes by 2-3 feet. Pasamayo is known for its consistency and can handle large swells, but if Lima is double overhead, the waves here may be too much. The cliffs offer some wind protection, and the best conditions are usually during windless early mornings with small to medium swells. The spot works on low, mid, and high tides. Access is challenging; most surfers park at the toll plazas on the north or south end of the highway division and hitch a ride with a truck or bus, or take a boat from Ancon. The walk down the sand dune is easy, but climbing back up after surfing can be tough. The area is empty most of the time, especially in winter or when there is thick fog. The bottom has rocks and urchins, so be careful when entering and exiting the water. There are no crowds, but if the spot is busy, respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check online resources. Nearby surf spots include Playa Tomaycalla, Conchitas, Isla El Camotal, Punta Roquitas, and La Pampilla. Pasamayo is different from Pacasmayo, which is further up the coast.
