Overview
About this Spot
La Herradura is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, in the Chorrillos district, close to the city and south of Barranco. The spot is known for its long left point break that runs along the base of a brown cliff. The wave at La Herradura has three main sections: El Point, La Segunda, and La Tercera. The surf spot provides left waves. The wave breaks over a bottom of sand and rocks, and the take-off zone is steep and fast, especially on the point, with a section that holds before slowing down and then picking up speed again for a barreling finish. The wave length is usually more than 150m when working, but on a normal day, it may not break at all. The spot works best with a solid south or southwest swell, handling sizes from 1.5m to 4.5m, and is surfable at all tides, though low to mid tide is often preferred. The best wind direction is from the southeast, which helps keep the surface glassy. The entry point is off a blocky ledge, and paddling out requires good timing, with a 20-30m paddle to the take-off zone. Sea urchins are present, so be careful when entering and exiting the water. The spot is often crowded, and localism can be an issue, so respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette, especially when the spot is busy. The wave is considered world-class and is best suited for intermediate and advanced surfers. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. Nearby surf spots include Caplina, Regatas, Triangulo, Ala Moana, and Barranquito. For the latest surf forecast, surf report, map, and webcam, check reliable surf websites before heading out.
