Overview
About this Spot
Sol y Mar is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, in the Chorrillos District, about 18 kilometers south of downtown Lima. The spot is known for its consistent surf conditions and sandy bottom, with some rocky outcrops. The wave breaks in front of the lifeguard stand and is a beachbreak, so the takeoff point can change depending on the swell direction. You can find two main peaks here. The spot provides both left and right waves. The surf is reliable all year, with the best conditions usually from April to October when the water is cooler, so a wetsuit is recommended. The beach is private and has a parking lot that is easy to find. To get there, take the Panamericana highway south, turn right at km 98 at the Sol y Mar sign, and follow a dirt road for about 200 meters to the entrance and parking area. The spot works on all tides and is best suited for intermediate surfers. The waves are powerful and can get hollow and ledgy, so you need to be ready for challenging conditions. Rips and undertow are present, and there is a risk of sharks. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters. The crowd is generally small, but localism is strong, so it is important to respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded. Always check the surf etiquette and be respectful in the water. Aggressive behavior is not tolerated. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. The area is accessible by public transportation. Nearby surf spots include Conchan, San Pedro, Villa, Arica, and Playa Los Pulpos. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check online resources before heading out.
