The Rock is a surf spot located in Southwest, Sri Lanka, at Kabalana Beach in Ahangama. The spot features a coral reef and sand bottom, and the waves break over a deep reef. The Rock is known for its powerful A-frame waves, with both left and right rides. The left can offer longer rides, sometimes up to 400 meters, while the right is shorter and hollow. The wave has a steep take-off and a fast pace. The spot works on all tides and is considered a regional classic. The length of the ride ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The paddle out to the peak is about 250-300 meters, and there is a channel on the left side that helps with the paddle. The area can get crowded, especially during the main surf season from November to April. When the spot is crowded, respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette. The best surf conditions are usually in the morning with offshore winds and glassy waves, while afternoons may see onshore winds. Board rentals are available at Kabalana Beach, with a range of surfboards for the conditions. The frequency of surfable waves is regular, and there are usually only a few surfers in the water outside of peak times.
