About this Spot

Marshalls is a surf spot located in Los Angeles County, California. The spot features an exposed reef break with boulders at the bottom. It’s known for its inconsistent waves, sometimes breaking with a length of less than 50 meters. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Marshalls is suitable for intermediate surfers and typically experiences medium tides. The crowd is usually sparse, with few surfers in the lineup. The optimal surfing conditions at Marshalls occur during the summer months, particularly in September, when the spot experiences the highest percentage of clean, surfable waves. The ideal swell direction is from the south-southwest, and the best wind conditions are offshore winds from the north-northeast. The water temperature averages around 17.2°C, so a spring wetsuit is recommended for most surfers. To reach Marshalls, take Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) to Malibu and look for the parking lot. You can park on PCH or use the self-register pay parking in the lot. Be extremely cautious when turning or using the middle lane on PCH, as accidents are common due to various factors including bicyclists, motorcyclists, and other drivers. The spot is located between Starbucks and Neptune’s Net. The main peak visible from the parking lot tends to offer the best waves, particularly the right-handers, which can hold larger swells. The spot can occasionally produce quality waves, but it’s relatively rare, happening only once or twice a year. When conditions are good, expect a crowd. Summer can bring good left waves on the other side of the reef, but be aware of shallow rocks and closeouts over 6 feet. Always check the surf forecast and report before heading out. Remember to respect the locals and follow proper surf etiquette, especially when the spot is crowded. It’s crucial to assess your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. Marshalls offers a unique surfing experience in the Malibu area, but it’s essential to stay informed about the conditions and exercise caution both in and out of the water.
