Overview
About this Spot
Scar Reef is a surf spot located in Bahia, Brazil, between Salvador and Praia do Forte. The spot is accessed through a private coconut farm, followed by a walk of about 200 meters to reach the reef. The bottom is a mix of coral and sand, and the area has submerged rocks and sharp corals, so caution is needed when entering and exiting the water. The spot provides both left and right waves. Scar Reef works on all tides and is known for strong, fast walls and occasional tubes, with wave lengths ranging from 50 to 150 meters. The waves are powerful and the takeoff can be tricky, especially if you are not familiar with the lineup, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The spot is best for intermediate surfers and is not recommended for beginners. The surf is most consistent with southern swells, and the best conditions are on days with no wind, though it is usually rideable even with onshore wind. The area is generally uncrowded, but if the spot is busy, respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette when the lineup is crowded. Access and parking may require permission from the landowner, and the spot can be hard to find if you are not familiar with the area. Scar Reef is near other surf spots like Praia das Ondas, Praia do Forte, Casinha, Stella Maris, and Jaguaribe.
