The best surfing conditions occur when the swell comes from the north and the wind blows from the south. The spot has a sand and rock bottom and can be surfed at all tides. It’s considered a regional classic and is suitable for intermediate surfers. Waipio Valley experiences regular waves with a length of less than 50m. The crowd is usually sparse, with few surfers in the water. However, be aware of potential localism and always respect the locals. When the spot gets crowded, it’s crucial to check and follow surf etiquette. The spot has some hazards to be mindful of, including rips, undertow, rocks, and the presence of sharks.
