About this Spot

New Orleans is a surf spot located in Alagoas and Sergipe, Brazil, near the town of Sereia and close to Maceió. The spot is named after a restaurant called New Orleans, which was owned by someone from New Orleans, USA. You can reach the spot by taking the road to Paripueira from Maceió, passing Praia da Sereia, and looking for a restaurant on the right side of the beach. After Sereia’s point, you’ll see a gas station on your left and the first bar on your right, Vila do Mar, standing alone among coconut trees. The surf spot has a sand and rock bottom, and getting in the water can be tricky because of the rocks, especially at high tide. Always watch out for rocks both when entering and while surfing, as the waves break close to the shore. The spot is best surfed on a low to rising tide, but it can also be surfed during high tide. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The waves are short and tubular, with a fast takeoff and a ride length of less than 50 meters. The area is usually empty during the week, but on weekends you might find more people, especially tourists watching from the restaurant. The spot is sunny all year round, and you’ll find plenty of coconut trees around. The best conditions are after a night rain with an offshore east wind, often after a full moon, when the swell can be powerful. The spot is suitable for all levels, but always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always follow surf etiquette. For more details, check the surf forecast, report, map, and webcam before heading out. Nearby surf spots include Riacho Doce, Cruz das Almas, Solaris, Rainha, and Pedra Virada.
