Elliott Heads is a surf spot located in Queensland, Australia. The spot provides both left and right waves. It features a sand and rock bottom and it is suitable for all levels of experience. The spot breaks sometimes, with wave lengths less than 50m. Elliott Heads works best at medium to high tide and typically has few surfers in the lineup. The best swell direction is northeast, with a minimum swell height of 2 feet. The best wind directions are southwest, west, and northwest. Parking is available in front of the caravan park, and there’s a kiosk for food and a picnic area with BBQs. The small beach is patrolled, so surfing might be restricted during certain hours. Check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your level. When the spot is crowded, respect the locals and follow surf etiquette. Elliott Heads is surrounded by small crop and sugarcane farms, located at the mouth of the Elliott River. The town, which had a population of 1,160 in 2021, is about 359 kilometers north of Brisbane. It’s a popular recreation area offering both surf and still water for various water activities. There’s a caravan park next to the surf beach with amenities, and a local Surf Life Saving Club nearby. The area was officially renamed from Springfield to Elliott Heads in 1967, taking its name from the Elliott River, which in turn was named after Gilbert Eliott, a public servant and politician. Nearby surf spots include Archies, Nielsen’s Beach, Bundaberg, Moore Park Beach, and North Ngala Rocks.
